Andrew Broder started off as a battling, scratching turntablist in the mid 90’s. While his main project, Fog took him further and further away from his hip-hop roots, Andrew re-immersed himself in something like rap in 2011, and all is right in the world again. BrodR is the moniker under which he creates and performs beats, instrumental and / or for rappers.
KILL THE VULTURES
Crescent Moon and Anatomy spent years touring with De La Soul, DJ Shadow, Talib Kweli, Atmosphere, Lyrics Born, Brother Ali, as well as headlining several tours in their antecedent groups Oddjobs and Third Earth Crew, whose fellow members included Jean Grae, Mr. Len of Company Flow, Juggaknots, Masterminds, and Pumpkinhead. Artistically unsatisfied, Crescent Moon and Anatomy formed Kill The Vultures and immediately began to explore new sounds, blending their love of grit, jazz, punk and tribal beats with beat poet/rap vocals.

Big Cats (aka Spencer Wirth-Davis) of local hip hop duo The Tribe & Big Cats released his solo album entitled For My Mother in October 2012. The project came to fruition last year after he received a grant from the American Composers Forum and the McKnight Foundation to make an instrumental Hip Hop/RnB album to honor his mother, who died from ovarian cancer in 2010. Wirth-Davis describes the inspiration his mother has brought him by saying, “If it weren’t for her, I probably wouldn’t be making music today.
CHANNY LEANEAGH DJ SET
Minneapolis continues its golden run of producing quality talent with the first project to arrive out the Gayngs collective, the super slick electronic pop-soul outfit Poliça. Fronted by ice cool vocalist Channy Leanagh who sang with Gayngs, produced by Ryan Olson and featuring Mike Noyce from Bon Iver, it’s a who’s who of the current Twin Cities scene. After collaborating in the studio and live with Gayngs in 2010, it became apparent that Channy and Ryan should form a group of their own.
