“Tabah is a new sound for Minneapolis to hear,” says Minnesota Public Radio’s 89.3 The Current. This spirited and dynamic group is committed to their pursuit of a sound that is uniquely theirs, alive in the present and grounded in the past. The band found their roots when lead singer and guitarist, Cecelia Erholtz met bassist Charlie Bruber in 2013 at a benefit concert at St. John’s University in Minnesota. Fueled by a mutual interest in Crosby Stills, Nash & Young, they began writing original music together at their home studio in Minneapolis.
Songwriter/composer J.E. Sunde writes beautifully unusual music. Classically trained in voice and with a love of songwriters and performers like Leonard Cohen, Nina Simone, and Paul Simon, Jon writes densely poetic songs with a bent toward the philosophical. Also, his voice sounds like some sort of weird angel.
Ayvah is a collection of jazz-trained musicians and hip-hop lovers rooted in soul; as they combine all of these influential and eclectic sounds, Ayvah has emerged as a jazz-funk, neo-soul band. Ayvah creates music from a wide base of inspiration, including love, heartbreak, coming of age, sexuality, poetry, nature and more. Minneapolis/Saint Paul based, Ava (lead vocals), Sam (keys), DeCarlo (bass), Joey (drums) and Andy (guitar) bring a strong sense artistry and collaboration to all local music niches.
