After years of writing music for a mass of bands, Max Collins and Kenny Carkeet needed a creative therapeutic release unbound by the restrictions of what a song “should” be. Together they formed Fitness, an aggressive, in your face synth-duo unconstrained by expectation or trend. True to form, the Los Angeles based duo releases music as they fast as they can make it.
Fronted by Zahira Gutierrez (vocals/keyboard) and Cody Swann (guitar/vocals), Wild Moccasins’ forthcoming third full-length serves as a new beginning for the group. Look Together tackles themes of repairing relationships, shedding insecurities, and fresh starts, with vibrant guitar and synth lines layered under Gutierrez’s soaring pop melodies. The impassioned 12 track LP began to form merely a week after the release of 2014’s 88 92, as Gutierrez and Swann’s decade-long romantic relationship dissolved.
With a distinct voice and clear direction, Oklahoma borrow elements from Indie Rock, Pop, & Alternative to share their perspective on life’s reoccurring themes. Oklahoma’s songwriting confronts & indulges neurosis, while interweaving voices underline each song’s sentiments.
Oklahoma were invited to open for Jimmy Eat World after their song “Sharp Dressed Love” won the hearts of the band during their Integrity Blues tour stop in Minneapolis, MN. Their debut LP, Fever Dream, featuring members of the Avett Brothers, Dashboard Confessional, and Eve 6, is slated for a 2018 release. Their EP, All US Bad Folk, is available now.
