Sweet JAP was born at the beginning of the year 2000 and ended suddenly in September 2004. They had a short life, but they sure put their mark on the Twin Cities punk scene and beyond. Their only album, Virgin Vibe, was released in the US by Big Neck Records and in Japan by the legendary 1+2 Records. They also appeared on several 7″s and compilations.

Sweet JAP was named the best rock band by the Twin Cities weekly paper City Pages. They also made it on the cover of international punk magazines Maximumrocknroll and Razorcake. They toured a handful of times. Shows were intense manic displays of rock and roll that succeeded in getting their name out there.

When Sweet JAP put themselves in the coffin, they took some unreleased songs with them. Be My Venus is the collection of those unreleased songs and rare tracks. In 2018, Big Neck Records was brave enough to open the grave for their left behind fans. This one-sided 9 song LP showcases their meteoric rise.

Marijuana Deathsquads is the ever-evolving, experimental project lead by Ryan Olson, (producer/writer of POLIÇA and GAYNGS), Isaac Gale, and Stefon Alexander (P.O.S). With multiple drummers, a slew of electronic instruments, and highly effected vocals, their live shows are a violent onslaught of improvised yet tightly woven, jagged, intricate experimental sound.

MURF is a six piece punk outfit based in minneapolis. Its members hail from Iowa, North Carolina, South Dakota and Minnesota. MURF originally began as a venue for the vocalist Dan to vent anger towards the police force using Robocop as the inspiration and to get to know his then housemate/MURF guitarist Tom. They recorded several demos, one looping in mutual friend and MURF guitarist Hunter.

A year or so passed and the demos sat until Tom contacted Dan asking if he’d like to play some of the songs live as a one night only performance. Dan was immediately in. Tom then assembled Hunter, Evan and Jeff; who then recruited fellow drummer and Robocop enthusiast, Ira. They performed the one show and since then have been steadily performing earning a reputation for chaotic, theatrical live shows including confetti, blood, costumes and audience participation. Their first release is out now and they are hard at work at their next effort…

Minneapolis-based punk rock supergroup featuring Laura Larson (Kitten Forever), Bree Meyer (Double Grave), Danielle Cusack (Bruise Violet, Tony Peachka) and Stephanie Jo Murck (Sass, Tony Peachka) […] Larson was inspired to form Scrunchies as a way to channel post-election feelings of despondency and anxiety into a creative force for change and rebellion towards the “oppressive political climate and how it feeds into a toxic culture of racism and misogyny.
