Lydia Liza got her start in the group Bomba de Luz, composed of five young Twin Cities musicians. The group started taking shape when lead singer Lydia Liza began teaching herself the guitar at age 14. After composing a handful of original songs, Liza enlisted the help of fellow high school sophomores Evan Slack (electric guitar), Gavin Taylor (bass), John Blanda (keys), and Jonas Taghavi/Judah McCoy (drums), and Bomba de Luz was born.
Bernard is a Bahamian poet living in Minnesota. He is most interested these days in writing about the history of the Bahamas and the Caribbean, and how the violences there are not so far related from the violences that take place here in the US. Perpetually afraid of things related to immigration and having to leave the country, Bernard often writes about finding home in the people that he loves, instead of homes as physical spaces.
