Purple Funk Metropolis is a charismatic six-piece instrumental band with a lively sound inspired by rock, jazz, funk, and old-school soul. With driving melodies at the forefront of the groove they build the party from the ground up with every performance. Whether in a Como basement or a downtown dive bar, Purple Funk’s energy notoriously gets the whole room dancing.

From the raw energy of Morsels (May 2017) to the explosive, vintage sounds of Mumbojumbotron (July 2018) and the artisan-woven Magic Carpet (December 2018), the many flavors of Purple Funk leave your palette cleansed and thirsty for more. Currently in the studio working on new tunes, rest assured PFM is always keeping it silly, keeping it light, keeping it funky, keeping it tight.

Directed by the songwriting of Karl Remus, Lucid VanGuard navigates an atmospheric realm of sonic cinemas, weaving cryptic lyrical tapestries through a balancing act of calm balladry and symphonic pandemonium. Lucid VanGuard is a part of the Minneapolis based record label/collective, Kremblems (26 BATS!, Warren Thomas Fenzi). Band personnel includes: Karl Remus (Guitar, Lead Vocal), Warren Thomas Fenzi (Drums, Background Vocal), Bailey Cogan (Keys, Background Vocal), Christian Wheeler (Bass), Daniel “Chavo” Chavez (Trumpet), and Dayton Brock (Guitar).

In the right hands, it’s impressive what can be done with just a piano, drum kit and bass guitar. Pianist C.J. Hanson and drummer Rachel Riefenberg are the rhythm section for the Latelys, a soulful three-piece led by bassist and singer Jenna Harting, whose vocal range and style diversity is reminiscent of Beth Hart or Patty Griffin. The trio’s small catalog of original tunes can be found on a 2017 self-titled EP, but be ready for a few vocally heavy-hitting covers of works from the likes of Janis Joplin and Susan Tedeschi during the live performance.
