THE WILD REEDS
The Wild Reeds can be defined by one word: Harmony. The sound from this LA based band fronted by Kinsey Lee, Mackenzie Howe and Sharon Silva dips in and out of multiple genres – some ethereal folk, a hint of country twang and some rock and roll rhythm (from Nick Jones and Nick Phakpiseth), but it all comes back to the root of this band’s power: harmonies that create an instrument in and of itself.
“It’s a snapshot of transition, of worldview formation, of deciding which questions to try to answer, and which ones to leave alone.” That’s Grant Gustafson (guitar/vocals), theorizing about the genesis of Blank Range’s new EP, Vista Bent.
Superior Siren is lead by singer/songwriter Laura Sellner. Since debuting in 2012, she has continued to captivate audiences. The singer has collaborated and created with many Duluth artists. In 2015 Sellner joined forces with cellist Rachel Gobin, bassist Nyssa Krause, and drummer Emma Deaner to craft an eerie folk sound. Superior Siren has a haunting voice accompanied by a mesmerizing blend of strings and percussion. The sound evolves from alluring swells of sombre melodies to fierce waves of ominous storms. The music will leave you shipwrecked on the shores of Lake Superior.
