Assembled in 2011, Minneapolis rock quartet Sleep Study has lived up to high expectations set by their dedicated followers and the media. The band’s unapologetic dedication to their modern take on a 70’s pop sound has earned them continued press from news outlets in their home state and beyond. Their single “Flower Girl” was nominated for an Independent Music Award and the band was recently named by Paste Magazine as one of 12 Minnesota Bands You Should Listen to Now.
Anthony Ruptak & his midnight friends are a five piece band from Denver, Co. They play original indie folk music that draws the listener in with interesting lyrics and exciting musicianship. The band started when Anthony Ruptak (guitar/vocals) met Jeb Draper (guitar/vocals) while playing open mics in Denver. They say that Denver has a great music scene where musicians are not in competition, rather they tend to help each other. As a result, the two started collaborating and found they had a lot in common musically. They fill out the mostly acoustic band with bass, drums and violin.
When Sabyre Rae’s blues and jazz meanderings give way to her alt-country and folk roots, the result is a swampy, bayou-infused stomp all the way up the Mississippi River to the Heartland. With the soulfulness of Norah Jones, the swagger of Billie Holiday, and the Americana sensibilities of Lucinda Williams, the Minneapolis-based songstress draws from a vibrant palette of past and present musical influences of her debut EP Revel.
