GRAND DEMISE OF CIVILIZATION
Grand Demise of Civilization began in 2008 as a four-piece, formed with members who had played in a previous band, Necromis, together since the early 1990s. Grand Demise released one album in 2009 titled Black Goat Apocalypse, comprised of seven songs collectively written together by all members of the band. With the release of Black Goat Apocalypse and playing select shows, Grand Demise of Civilization had quickly built a name for themselves; but in late 2009, the band broke up due to outside interferences and obligations.
In early 2012, guitar player and vocalist, Crotalus Kraahl (credited as J), began taking a previously unreleased song written by the band and organize it with a collection of new and older material written by himself and created a new album, The Repent of the Sentient Being. Along with previous Grand Demise of Civilization guitar player and vocalist, Svart Onde (credited as Jensen), J arranged, programmed, and recorded one 43 minute track of epic Hell Metal to create a new brand of Grand Demise of Civilization.
Beginning in 2017, Grand Demise of Civilization is a full band again, with J (now using real name of Jason Notebaart) adding long-time friend and former Necromis band member, Dan Lerach, on guitars and vocals, and Jenson (now going by full name of Shawn Jensen) switching to bass guitar and vocals. Then finally, adding drummer, Patrick Ruhland, to the mix, giving the band a well-rounded group of musicians. Grand Demise of Civilization is a blend of black metal and melodic compositions, with no true lead vocalist, but all three musicians up front share all vocal duties, switching lead parts during songs and doing triple vocal effects live, giving their own take on an aggressive metal brand called Hell Metal.
CANYON OF THE SKULL
The brainchild of Erik Ogershok, COTS was initially manifested in the winter of 2006. Several local appearances and line up fluctuations later, life happened, and the project laid dormant. The project was resurrected with renewed vigor and purpose in 2014. Abandon All Hope!
Erik Ogershok has been involved in metal his entire life, from musician to record store clerk. He’s toured the country with numerous acts in the underground over the years and continues to keep the flame burning with his current group Canyon of the Skull. When he’s not melting faces on guitar, he’s knee deep in the tanks or flying around to your town on business as the Brewmaster of WarPigs USA.
Formed in 2015, SUNLESS draws influence from pioneers of extreme and dissonant metal such as Gorguts, Ulcerate, and Meshuggah, reinterpreting the sounds through an abstract lens that is all their own. Comprised of bassist Mitch Schooler (Nerves, Modulus), drummer Taylor Hamel (Aziza), and guitarist/vocalist Lucas Scott (Obsolete, Australis, Pestifere), the band features a prominent rhythm section, a scattered assortment of time signatures, interwoven and complex arrangements, and bellowing death growls, akin to the output of Artificial Brain, Baring Teeth, and Pyrrhon.
SUNLESS has toured and performed across the United States and Canada in support of their debut full-length album Urraca with like-minded bands such as Gigan, Suffering Hour, and Plebeian Grandstand. Tracked by Adam Tucker at Signaturetone Recording (The Crinn, Ambassador Gun, Maeth) in their hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota and mixed/mastered by Colin Marston at Menegroth, The Thousand Caves in Queens, New York, Urraca delivers a relentlessly engaging onslaught of complex and dissonant death metal with nine tracks encompassing a dense forty-four minutes. The album is presented appropriately in a psychedelic and abstract visual manner with artwork by former band member Andrew Notsch (Youwretch) aka Hollow Dusk and logo by Stephen Wilson aka Unknown Relic.
